The Delusion of Drugs
Imagine how a single moment of curiosity could transform a person’s life from a future full of hope to a dark, hard-to-escape path. This is drugs: a poison that infiltrates the body and mind, stealing a person’s health, family, and future.
Drugs are among the most dangerous problems threatening individuals and society, due to their severe physical and psychological harms. They affect human health, impair the ability to think and make sound decisions, and can lead to addiction, causing family, social, and economic problems.
Regrettably, some young people turn to drugs because of bad company or a desire for experimentation, without realizing the consequences.
The harms of drugs do not stop at the user; they extend to their family and community. Therefore, laws strive to combat and curb their trafficking and use by imposing legal penalties on those who traffic, distribute, or consume drugs. These laws are stringent, as stipulated by legislation, and aim to protect society and limit the spread of this serious scourge. Thus, the success of this campaign has been achieved by strengthening the element of punishment, which is one of the key features of the legal norm.
In my view, the law alone is not enough; awareness, support, and treatment for those in need must also be provided. Although the state has enacted strict laws and severe penalties for drug users and traffickers, the issue also requires the state to contribute to addressing addiction in a highly professional and precise manner.
It would be ideal if the state established health resorts to shelter, protect, and rehabilitate young drug users, rather than allowing drug traffickers to operate in foreign countries.
The legal efforts to eradicate the drug phenomenon are ongoing with seriousness and success; prevention is a shared responsibility, beginning with the family and school and extending to the cooperation of the entire community.
