Al-Hawila: Eager to exchange expertise with Bahrain to develop social protection and care system

- Participated in the meeting of Gulf ministers of social affairs and inspected several social centers and facilities

Minister of Social Affairs, Family, and Childhood Affairs, Dr. Amthal Al-Huwaili, participated today, Thursday, in the 12th meeting of the Committee of Ministers of Social Affairs and Development of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, held in the Bahraini capital of Manama, to discuss several shared Gulf social files.

The Ministry of Social Affairs, Family, and Childhood Affairs stated in a statement relayed by the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) that the meeting reviewed the implementation of the committee’s action plan for the period 2026–2030, issues concerning persons with disabilities, children’s rights, and women’s affairs, alongside enhancing Gulf coordination in social fields.

The ministry added that the meeting discussed a package of unified benefits proposed for persons with disabilities, strengthening their participation in discussions related to their issues, and monitoring the implementation of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, as well as the Gulf plan to address the phenomenon of divorce, voluntary work, and proposals for empowering Gulf women.

In a related development, Dr. Al-Huwaili, accompanied by Bahrain’s Minister of Social Development, Osama Al-Alawi, conducted a field tour visiting several social centers and facilities in Bahrain to review the services and programs provided to beneficiary groups.

The tour included the Mubarak Jassim Kano Comprehensive Social Center and the Capital Complex for Bahraini Handicrafts, where she reviewed initiatives and programs aimed at supporting, empowering, and enhancing the community participation of beneficiary groups.

She also visited the Protection and Social Care Complex, which houses the Child Protection Center, the Boys’ Child Placement Home, the Girls’ Child Placement Home, Al-Karama Home, and Al-Aman Home, where she reviewed the social, psychological, and residential services provided, including services for victims of domestic violence and their minor children.

Dr. Al-Huwaili emphasized the importance of exchanging expertise and experiences between Kuwait and Bahrain, and learning from successful practices to develop the social protection and care system, thereby contributing to improving the quality of services provided to families and beneficiary groups and enhancing joint Gulf cooperation.
