The Ministry of Health announced the launch of the Field Epidemiology Training Program (FETP) for the first time in Kuwait, organized by the Kuwait Center for Disease Control and Prevention, in cooperation with the World Health Organization and with the participation of international experts. The program aims to strengthen national capacities in epidemic surveillance and response to epidemics and health risks.

The Ministry clarified that the program aims to qualify national cadres capable of translating health data into practical decisions and actions, through applied training in epidemic surveillance, disease outbreak investigation, evaluation of surveillance systems, data analysis, and rapid response to health risks, thereby enhancing the health system’s readiness and its capacity for early detection.

It added that the launch of the program coincides with the commencement of the Board of Public Health and Preventive Medicine, forming two integrated training pathways: one specialized for physicians, and the other applied in field epidemiology, targeting medical practitioners and related allied health professionals.

The Ministry emphasized that this step is part of sustainable investment in national cadres and the consolidation of a public health approach based on prevention, proactiveness, and evidence-based decision-making.

It stressed that the program represents a long-term investment in Kuwait’s health security by preparing specialized national competencies and strengthening the country’s capacity to prevent, detect early, and respond to epidemics and health threats, leading to a more ready, resilient, and sustainable health system.
