Portugal national team manager Jorge Jesus responded on Wednesday to a lengthy statement issued by Cristiano Ronaldo, in which the star forward detailed the crisis that led to his departure from the national team camp, accusing the coach of breaking his word twice.
Jesus, speaking to CMTV and CNN as he left his home in the morning, said: “I have read the statement. Now, as I do every day, I will go to the federation to work and think about the team and the Portuguese national side. I have nothing else to say,” stopping short of addressing the specific details raised by Ronaldo.
On Tuesday evening, after returning from Leiria, Jesus had said he had not yet had the chance to read Ronaldo’s statement and would do so later, before confirming on Wednesday morning that he had indeed reviewed it.
In his statement, Ronaldo presented his version of the crisis, accusing Jesus of failing to honor their agreement, while acknowledging that his departure from the camp warranted punishment and leaving the door open for him to continue his career with the Portuguese national team.

Jesus had previously left the door open for Ronaldo’s return, characterizing the incident as a “misunderstanding” that could be resolved. Meanwhile, Portuguese Football Federation president Pedro Proença affirmed that the federation would seek to bring the parties together and resolve the dispute.
To date, no announcement has been made regarding a proposed meeting between Ronaldo and Jesus, which Portuguese media have described as a “peace summit,” nor has any official declaration been issued setting a date for such a meeting or imposing a sanction on Ronaldo.
