Qatar: Mediation between Washington and Tehran has not ceased... with message exchanges between them
- We support Saudi Arabia in safeguarding its security and condemn the Houthi targeting of the Kingdom, holy sites, and civilian assets.
The Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed on Tuesday that mediation efforts between the United States and Iran are ongoing and have not ceased, noting that these efforts aim to achieve progress that can be built upon and encompass all issues of concern to both sides.
Ibrahim Al-Haashimi, Director of the Media and Communications Department at the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated during the ministry’s weekly press briefing that “dialogue is ongoing, with messages being exchanged between Washington, Tehran, and Qatar as a mediator between the parties.” He emphasized that resolving this issue requires the utmost efforts through negotiable solutions, taking into account the concerns of all parties.

Regarding the file of the Iranian pilots, Al-Haashimi said, “Qatar has been clear from the outset that this matter has been handled and the Iranian side has been informed of the latest developments,” adding that Qatar is open to an Iranian visit to review the measures taken in this regard.
On regional developments, he clarified that Qatar supports any initiatives undertaken by regional states to preserve their security, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, including the Mecca Agreement for Joint Defense. He noted that this alliance enhances regional cooperation related to maintaining capabilities and the stability of regional states.
He reiterated Qatar’s support for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in all measures it takes to safeguard its security and territorial integrity, stating in this regard: “We condemn the irresponsible approach adopted by the Houthi group in targeting the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Islamic holy sites, and civilian assets, and we support the Kingdom in all measures it takes to preserve its security and territorial integrity.”
He affirmed Qatar’s backing of any moves that maintain the security and stability of the region, noting that it is too early to discuss Qatar’s potential accession to the Mecca Agreement for Joint Defense.
