India condemns targeting of two commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz and Black Sea, calls for halt to attacks

- After the killing of sailors and the injury of several crew members, including Indian nationals

India on Tuesday condemned two separate attacks targeting commercial vessels off the coasts of Oman and in the Black Sea.

The Indian Ministry of External Affairs, in a statement, condemned the earlier attack on the Panama-flagged commercial vessel “On Bess” off the coast of Oman, which was hit by a projectile while transiting the Strait of Hormuz. The ship was carrying a crew of 19, including 17 Indian nationals.

The statement said that 12 crew members were injured, including 11 Indian nationals.

India also expressed its gratitude to the Omani authorities for assisting in the evacuation of the injured crew members, who are currently receiving medical care in the Omani city of Khasab.

The ministry stated: “Attacks on maritime navigation in the region continue, which remain a matter of deep concern to India,” reiterating its call for an immediate halt to such attacks to ensure peace and stability in the region.

India also condemned the attack on the commercial vessel “Roiad Mamadou” in the Black Sea, which resulted in the deaths of foreign sailors and injuries to several crew members, including Indian nationals.

India expressed its gratitude to the Romanian authorities for their swift action in rescuing the crew members, who are currently receiving medical care.

New Delhi emphasized the need to end the targeting of commercial ships, sailors, and civilian infrastructure in the region, and called for the restoration of navigation and trade through international waterways as soon as possible.
