Trump added in remarks to journalists that gasoline prices are falling rapidly, expecting a sharp decline once the war ends, and pointing to record oil flows through the Strait of Hormuz.
In a post on the “Truth Social” platform, Trump said that “it is no longer the Strait of Hormuz” driving gasoline prices higher, attributing current pressure on fuel prices to factors related to the refining sector, including Ukrainian strikes on Russian oil refineries and the closure of refineries in states led by Democrats.
Trump’s comments come as data from Kpler, cited by Reuters, showed a notable recovery in crude oil exports from the Middle East, with the seven-day moving average reaching 18.3 million barrels per day on September 30, surpassing pre-war levels for 14 days of the month.
The data also showed that crude flows through the Strait of Hormuz averaged 14.2 million barrels per day over a seven-day moving average on September 26, representing roughly 80 percent of pre-war levels.
This recovery in flows comes despite ongoing security risks in the strait. Reuters reported that attacks on oil tankers have continued in recent days, while navigation still faces security threats.
