Yemeni army regains control of the strategic city of 'Al-Mukha' on the Red Sea

Yemeni military sources announced on Monday that forces of the legitimate government have regained control of the Red Sea coastal city of Al-Mukha in the Taiz governorate in southwestern Yemen, following clashes with Iran-backed Houthi militias.

The state-run Yemeni News Agency (Saba) quoted a military source as saying that forces from the “National Shield,” “Giants Brigades,” and “Tihama Resistance,” supported by popular resistance and air support, managed to seize control of the strategic Red Sea city after confrontations with Houthi militias that had held it since early September.

The source clarified that fighting took place in several locations surrounding Al-Mukha, involving various types of weapons, and resulted in casualties and injuries among the militia ranks, the capture of several of its members, and the flight of others.

He noted that the forces are continuing to pursue Houthi militia elements, sweeping through and securing the liberated sites, neighborhoods, and facilities to eliminate any remaining militia strongholds.

He affirmed that the armed forces are continuing their military operations in accordance with directives from Rashad al-Alimi, Chairman of the Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council, and as part of the “Yemen Dawn” operation aimed at restoring state institutions, liberating the capital Sanaa, and ending the Houthi militia coup.

Earlier on Monday, the official spokesperson for the Yemeni Armed Forces, Colonel Majid al-Nazili, announced the control of the Bab al-Mandab area and the road leading to Al-Mukha, following a military flanking operation involving forces from the “Giants” and “National Shield.”

President al-Alimi had announced on Sunday the commencement of military operations to reclaim the remaining territories of the Yemeni Republic and extend state authority over the entire national territory. He announced on Monday the launch of the operation under the name “Yemen Dawn,” aimed at restoring state institutions, liberating the capital Sanaa, and ending the Houthi militia coup.
