Two people were killed and 35 others injured in a shooting that occurred during a party in a residential neighborhood in Vienna, Georgia, early Sunday morning, as authorities continued to investigate the circumstances of the incident without announcing any arrests.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation stated that deputies from the Walton County Sheriff’s Office were patrolling the event when they heard gunfire around 1:25 a.m. on Pine Street. Upon responding to the scene, they found several gunshot victims and two individuals who had died at the location.

Walton County Sheriff Craig Beve identified the deceased as Jacquavion Jackson, 21, of Cordell, and Makalib Jackson, 23, of Hawkinsville.

According to the Associated Press, more than 50 shots were fired from at least two locations during the party, which spanned four residential blocks and drew more than 1,000 attendees.

The ages of the injured ranged from 14 to 51. Most were shot, while others sustained injuries while attempting to flee. The victims were transported to several hospitals for treatment.

Authorities have not yet determined the motive behind the shooting or arrested any suspects. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation and the Walton County Sheriff’s Office continue to investigate the incident.

The party coincided with celebrations for the start of the school year, but it was not an official event organized by Walton County schools.
