Kuwait’s experience in supporting the “Silver Economy” highlighted as Al-Ajmi wins Scientific Competence Award

The Kuwait Retired Officers Association participated in the 12th Forum and Award for Best Practices in Elderly Care in Arab Countries for 2026, held today in Manama on Saturday, as part of the activities of the 2026 Arab Strategic Forum on the Silver Economy, under the slogan “Towards Productive Aging… and a Prosperous Economy.”

The Association presented a working paper at the forum, which was held under the patronage of Bahrain’s Minister of Social Development, Osama Al-Alawi. The paper outlined Kuwait’s efforts to support the concept of the Silver Economy as a “growing economic opportunity to meet the needs of the elderly amid their increasing numbers,” in addition to the legal basis for establishing the Kuwait Retired Officers Association and its role in this field.

The paper emphasized that the growing elderly population “necessitates expanding elderly care services, keeping pace with their increasing numbers, providing better services, and raising community awareness of their rights.” It stressed the importance of encouraging the state, the private sector, and civil society organizations to participate in implementing comprehensive elderly care projects, as well as training specialized personnel and caregivers in these fields.

On the sidelines of its active scientific participation in the forum, Lt. Gen. Eng. Dr. Hussein Al-Ajmi, head of the Legal Committee at the Kuwait Retired Officers Association and a lawyer and arbitrator certified by the Association, received the Scientific Competence Award in the field of the Silver Economy.

Representing the Association at the forum were retired Lt. Gen. Faisal Al-Jazaf, President of the Kuwait Retired Officers Association; retired Lt. Gen. Bader Al-Ghadhouri, Head of the Community Security, Research, and Studies Committee; and retired Lt. Gen. Hussein Al-Ajmi, Head of the Legal Committee.

The Association’s participation underscores its commitment to social issues related to the elderly, its interest in learning from Arab experiences and best practices in this field, and its aim to enhance the role of retirees and their expertise in serving society and supporting sustainable development.
