Messi Acquires Second Spanish Club in Less Than 6 Months
The Spanish club Deportivo Eldense announced on Thursday that Argentine star Lionel Messi has acquired the club, marking a new chapter in the team’s history, which spans more than 100 years.
The club stated that Messi’s entry as owner of Eldense represents the beginning of a long-term project aimed at enhancing the club’s sporting, institutional, and social development, while preserving its roots and identity.
The acquisition remains subject to mandatory approval by Spain’s Higher Sports Council (CSD), in accordance with Spanish sports law, which is the final step required to complete the deal.
Messi executed an agreement last September to purchase 100% of Eldense’s shares, following a preliminary agreement to acquire the club’s entire share capital, before Eldense officially announced today the start of this new phase under the Argentine star’s ownership.

Founded in 1921, Eldense will compete in the Spanish second division during the 2026-2027 season, having secured promotion after topping Group Two last season and earning direct promotion.
Eldense is the second Spanish club acquired by Messi, who became owner of Cornella last April. The Eldense deal remains contingent on obtaining the necessary regulatory approval from the Higher Sports Council.
