The Lebanese Army announced on Thursday the thwarting of a smuggling operation involving approximately 245 kilograms of highly explosive TNT and four improvised explosive devices (IEDs) being transported from Syrian territory into Lebanon.
In a statement, the army explained that the operation was the result of surveillance and monitoring along the northern and eastern borders, noting that the seized materials also included eight detonators and specialized detonator wiring.
It added that the smugglers fled toward Syrian territory as soon as an army patrol arrived at the scene.
The seized items were handed over to the relevant authorities, while follow-up efforts and coordination continue to arrest those involved.
