The event highlighted the importance of providing comprehensive, multidisciplinary care for individuals with DMD, encompassing prevention, early diagnosis, and treatment, while keeping pace with advances in modern therapies, thereby contributing to improved quality of life for patients and support for their families.

The Ministry of Health’s focus on the disease builds on Kuwait’s role in raising awareness internationally, having led an initiative to submit a draft resolution to the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly, which designated September 7 of each year as World Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy Awareness Day.

The event addressed the importance of strengthening collaboration among health entities concerned with genetic diseases, particularly with the integration of the Kuwait Center for Genetic Diseases into the departments of the New Maternity Hospital, thereby supporting continuity of care and integration among prevention, diagnosis, and treatment services.

Furthermore, cooperation between the Center and the hospital’s assisted reproduction unit has helped reduce the incidence of new cases among families with a genetic history of the disease, while enhancing genetic counseling, testing, and preventive services.

The event emphasized the need to continue developing services for patients with DMD and to raise community awareness about the disease and early detection methods, thereby supporting the establishment of a care system that safeguards patients’ rights and provides them with the best opportunities for care and quality of life.
