CENTCOM: 125 Commercial Ships Redirected Since Resumption of Sanctions on Iranian Ports
U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced on Wednesday that it had redirected 125 commercial vessels since the resumption of the U.S. blockade on Iranian ports in mid-July.
In a statement, CENTCOM said that U.S. forces had redirected 125 commercial vessels, halted three ships, and inspected two others by September 30 to ensure full compliance with the sanctions imposed on Iran.
It confirmed that U.S. forces continue to enforce a tight naval blockade on Iranian ports.
Earlier, CENTCOM Commander Admiral Brad Cooper stated in a recent operational update that U.S. forces had helped ensure the safe passage of more than one billion barrels of oil through the Strait of Hormuz over the past two months.
Cooper added that while U.S. forces continue to keep the Strait of Hormuz “open and safe,” they are preventing Iran from exporting any oil shipments from its ports, emphasizing that the naval blockade on Iran remains “effective and strong” and is achieving its objectives.
