14 dead in fireworks factory fire in Russia

Fourteen people were killed in a fire that broke out on Monday at a fireworks factory in Russia’s Yaroslavl region, while another person was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Tass news agency reported that emergency services said firefighters managed to extinguish the blaze that engulfed two buildings in the village of Koperinsk, near the town of Pereslavl-Zalessky.

Earlier, the region’s governor, Mikhail Yevgrafov, confirmed the deaths of 10 people, noting that search and rescue operations were continuing around the clock.

Authorities deployed approximately 200 emergency responders to the site to manage the aftermath and continue search and rescue efforts.

Russian authorities have opened a criminal investigation into the incident, following suspicions of violations of industrial safety regulations, according to Tass.
