OPEC Secretary-General: Oil Market Stability Built on Trust and Unity Among Nations in Crises
Kuwait, represented by the Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy, participated today in the 32nd meeting of the Committee for Electrical and Water Cooperation at the level of deputy ministers and officials from relevant authorities in the electricity and water sectors of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries. The meeting was held via video conference and chaired by the Kingdom of Bahrain, which holds the presidency for the current 2026 term.
The Kuwaiti delegation was led by Dr. Adel Mohammed Al-Zamil, Deputy Minister of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy. The meeting was attended by deputy ministers and officials from relevant authorities in GCC member states, along with representatives of the GCC Secretariat General.
The meeting discussed agenda items, as well as several memoranda and recommendations submitted by specialized technical committees and working groups, alongside updates on ongoing joint GCC cooperation initiatives in the electricity and water sectors.
Participants explored joint initiatives and programs in the electricity and water sectors to enhance integration, facilitate the exchange of expertise and experiences among member states, and strengthen cooperation with specialized international institutions and organizations, leveraging international expertise in research and development and capacity building.
The meeting also discussed topics and recommendations related to developing the interconnection system among GCC states, supporting efforts to enhance grid reliability, supply security, and the efficiency of electricity exchange. Additionally, it focused on increasing GCC participation in specialized conferences, workshops, and seminars, and showcasing successful Gulf experiences, initiatives, and projects in the electricity and water sectors.
The meeting reviewed studies and proposals concerning water interconnection projects among GCC states and their related technical and operational aspects, aiming to bolster water security and Gulf integration.
It also followed up on joint initiatives and programs supporting the expansion of new and renewable energy projects, and enhancing cooperation with specialized Gulf and international entities, in line with GCC states’ strategies to diversify energy sources and achieve sustainability.
The meeting reviewed progress made on previous recommendations and decisions, and discussed upcoming implementation steps to strengthen continuous coordination among relevant authorities in GCC member states.
The meeting concluded by emphasizing the importance of continuing to enhance cooperation, coordination, and integration among GCC member states in the electricity and water sectors, and supporting joint strategic projects and initiatives. These efforts aim to strengthen supply security and reliability, improve resource efficiency, develop infrastructure, diversify energy sources, and meet future needs, thereby supporting sustainable development goals and the national visions of GCC states.
