France: 10-year prison sentence for artist Saad Lamjarred

The Court of Appeal in Créteil, southeast of Paris, sentenced Moroccan singer Saad Lamjarred to 10 years in prison on Saturday, after convicting him of rape, in a harsher ruling than the first-instance sentence.

Lamjarred had previously been sentenced in 2023 to six years in prison by the Paris Assize Court in connection with the same case.

The public prosecutor’s office told AFP that the court sentenced Lamjarred, 41, to 10 years in prison and ordered his immediate detention, after convicting him of rape aggravated by the circumstance that he was under the influence of alcohol.

During the trial, the public prosecutor had requested an eight-year prison sentence for him.
