The National Cancer Awareness Campaign, “Kaan,” announced the imminent launch of its annual breast cancer awareness initiative under the slogan “Your Awareness... The Pink Safety Belt,” starting on September 30. It reaffirmed its continuation of a national awareness campaign that has spanned nearly two decades, during which “Kaan” has accumulated extensive expertise in promoting health awareness and fostering a culture of early detection.
Dr. Khaled Al-Saleh, Chairman of the Board of Directors and Head of the Executive Committee of “Kaan,” stated that awareness and knowledge constitute a fundamental pillar for prevention, early detection, and enhancing recovery chances. He noted that breast cancer ranks first among the most common types of cancer among women in the country.
He added that this year’s initiative builds on a cumulative record of success, during which “Kaan” trained 197,000 high school students in self-examination and early detection. A strategy has been devised to expand the target audience to reach hundreds of thousands of students, university women, employees, volunteers, women with disabilities, and survivors.
For her part, Dr. Hessa Al-Shahin, Board Member and Head of the Breast Cancer Initiative, emphasized that the success of awareness efforts depends on community partnership and the integration of roles among various entities. She highlighted the participation of a large team of specialists and volunteers in ensuring the initiative’s success and dedicating efforts to the goal of transitioning from mere observation and correct knowledge to behavioral and lifestyle changes.
She clarified that the initiative reflects the importance of the private sector’s role and its social responsibility in supporting health awareness. She confirmed that the campaign relies on cooperation with the Ministry of Health, official authorities, public benefit associations, and cancer centers, through examinations, seminars, and awareness activities in educational institutions, commercial complexes, and other community venues.
