Iraqi Prime Minister: The state holds the decision-making power in peace, war, and arms, vested in its constitutional institutions

- After the international coalition’s mission concludes, cooperation will shift from military to economic and developmental

Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Alloush stated on Friday that his government’s priorities are to ensure the state remains the sole decision-maker in matters of peace and war, and that weapons and instruments of power remain under the control of its constitutional institutions.

This statement was part of Iraq’s address delivered by al-Alloush during the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. He noted that executive measures in this regard “are based on the law and national interest in building a state of institutions, protecting sovereignty, and consolidating stability.”

He added that his government “is working within the framework of national will to restore the authority of the law, strengthen state institutions, and deepen citizens’ trust in them.”

Al-Alloush pointed out that with the conclusion of the international coalition’s mission in Iraq, his country will shift its relations with “strategic” partners from military cooperation to economic and developmental cooperation “in a manner that serves common interests.”

On the regional level, al-Alloush expressed Iraq’s concern over the repercussions linked to freedom of navigation and maritime transport, and the resulting crisis of rising global energy prices. He noted that Iraq is working to diversify oil export routes and develop energy lines and corridors connecting Iraq, Turkey, Jordan, and Syria to global markets.

He reiterated Iraq’s supportive stance toward dialogue and diplomacy to de-escalate crises.
