The issue of reopening the file on missing Kuwaitis, and focusing on searching for their fate, was brought before the United Nations General Assembly. Undoubtedly, continuously raising this humanitarian issue before the UN Security Council is a clear step and message that Kuwait continues to renew its efforts to achieve a resolution by repatriating their remains to the homeland, bringing an end to this file, and bringing relief to the families of the missing after more than 35 years since the end of the Liberation War and the fall of the despised regime in Iraq.
We affirm that this file remains open, as the remains of more than 300 missing persons are still within Iraqi territory, supported by coordinates, evidence, and information that reinforce this belief.
Therefore, we call for continuing to raise this file and pressuring the Joint Commission for Search and Verification, established by the United Nations, to push the committee operating in Iraq and Kuwait, as well as those working with the International Red Cross, to cooperate with the Kuwaiti and Iraqi Red Crescent Societies. We urge them to intensify inspection and field campaigns and verify all available information regarding the locations of the remains of these missing Kuwaitis and others who were lost during the brutal invasion.
From this standpoint, we demand that this file not be closed, but rather remain open at all relevant international forums, meetings, conferences, and seminars advocating for human rights and the disclosure of the fate of documented war prisoners under international conventions.
The movement of the Kuwaiti Ministry of Foreign Affairs during the UN General Assembly meetings to reopen the file on missing Kuwaitis, chaired by the representative of His Highness the Amir of the Country, His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, carries a clear indication of the wise leadership’s focus on this important file. This effort aims to uncover the fate of the missing Kuwaitis, bring relief to their families and children, and close this significant humanitarian chapter. We ask God that all efforts be crowned with goodness and blessings, and we pray to Him Almighty to accept our righteous martyrs with His vast mercy, and to protect our country, our wise leadership, and our people from all harm and evil.
