Ronaldo: You can only kill me with a rifle bullet... and I will dodge it

Between the dream of scoring his 1,000th goal, the ambition of winning a new title with the Portugal jersey, and open discussions about retirement and criticism, Cristiano Ronaldo appeared determined to continue writing the chapters of his career, affirming that his departure from the pitch has not yet been decided.

The 41-year-old Portuguese star revealed his key ambitions with the national team ahead of the start of the UEFA Nations League, during his participation in the Football Summit in his home country.

Ronaldo is preparing for a new phase with his national team under the guidance of new head coach Jorge Jesus, who will begin his tenure with a match against Wales in the tournament.

Speaking in remarks highlighted by the Spanish newspaper AS, Ronaldo said, "I don't remember a day when I spoke in front of such a large audience," adding, "My goal is to score my 1,000th career goal and to win the UEFA Nations League title."

The Portuguese captain confirmed that the team is preparing for a new chapter, thanking former coach Roberto Martinez for his contributions despite the criticism he faced, and expressing confidence in new manager Jorge Jesus, whom he described as well-known to everyone, expecting things to go well with him.

Regarding the criticism he faces, the Al-Nassr striker said he is required to maintain a degree of diplomacy, adding, "I cannot be completely candid, but what I can say is that I have been very well received this year. I understand that the media are trying to kill me, but that will only happen with a rifle bullet, and when that time comes, I will dodge the bullet."

He added that he is accustomed to some people not liking him, confirming that it is something he cannot control and does not bother him.

Regarding the timing of his retirement, the former Real Madrid and Juventus star said he does not have a specific answer, but indicated that the current season could be the last of his career. He affirmed that he will announce his decision when the time comes for his final match, despite knowing that many want him to leave now.

Ronaldo revealed that he had already considered retiring after the end of Portugal's World Cup campaign, before deciding to continue his career.

He concluded by saying that his continued presence with the national team came after he sensed the desire of the coach and the federation president for him to stay, pointing out his ability to help Portugal not only by scoring goals, but also by supporting the new generation, while reaffirming that his priority remains being on the pitch and scoring.
