Oman: 27 crew members evacuated from commercial ship after it was targeted near Musandam

The incident resulted in a fire in the engine room and the death of one crew member.

The Oman Maritime Security Center announced today that it carried out an evacuation operation for the crew of the commercial vessel “CAPE DAO,” flying the flag of Antigua and Barbuda, after the ship was targeted 2.5 nautical miles from Musandam Governorate. The incident caused a fire in the engine room and resulted in the death of one crew member.

The Center explained that a vessel of the Royal Navy of Oman, in coordination with the relevant authorities, evacuated 27 crew members and provided them with the necessary medical care.

The relevant authorities have begun handling the incident and ensuring the safety of the crew members. This incident comes amid rising risks facing commercial maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz.
