Chinese Ambassador: Water treatment project implementation to begin soon, with more contracts expected this year
He affirmed that bilateral relations have entered a "faster track" toward a more comprehensive partnership.
The two countries are key partners in the energy sector, with Kuwait ranking among the top ten oil suppliers to China.
They look forward to renewable energy becoming a "highlight and growth driver" in bilateral relations.
Yang Xin, Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Kuwait, affirmed that China-Kuwait relations have entered a "faster track" toward a more comprehensive partnership, thanks to the strategic guidance of the leadership of both countries. He noted that bilateral cooperation is witnessing growing momentum and expansion across political, economic, cultural, scientific, technological, and security fields.
Speaking to journalists on the sidelines of a reception hosted by the embassy to mark the 77th National Day of the People's Republic of China and the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations with Kuwait, attended by Minister of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy Dr. Subhi Al-Mukhazim, along with several ambassadors and heads of diplomatic missions, Yang Xin stated that China is "fully satisfied with the current state of bilateral relations" and looks forward to deepening comprehensive cooperation to deliver greater benefits to the peoples of both countries.
He pointed out that the two countries established a strategic partnership in 2018 and are currently working to enhance the alignment between the Belt and Road Initiative and "Kuwait Vision 2035," thereby opening broader avenues for cooperation in trade, investment, infrastructure, construction, ports, logistics zones, and supply chains.
He explained that Kuwait enjoys a distinguished geographical position that qualifies it to build a regional logistics hub linking Asia and Europe, with the potential to extend its connections to Africa. He affirmed China's readiness to deepen cooperation in developing ports, infrastructure, and logistics services.
Regarding strategic projects, the Ambassador stated that some construction projects have been affected by regional developments but remain ongoing. He revealed that a contract for a water treatment project has been signed, with implementation works set to begin soon, and he expects additional contracts to be signed within the current year.
Energy Partnership
Yang Xin affirmed that China and Kuwait are important partners in the energy sector, explaining that China is a major importer of Kuwaiti crude oil, while Kuwait remains among the top ten oil suppliers to China.
He said his country is ready to continue deepening cooperation in oil and gas to enhance energy security and economic security for both nations, alongside expanding cooperation in new and renewable energy.
He noted that cooperation documents signed in the presence of the leadership of both countries included projects in the new energy sector, expressing his country's hope that renewable energy will become a "new highlight and new growth driver" in China-Kuwait relations.
Technology and Security
In emerging sectors, the Ambassador affirmed China's readiness to cooperate with Kuwait in artificial intelligence, the digital economy, smart cities, and cybersecurity, while continuing cooperation in traditional sectors.
On the security and military front, he pointed to the good relations between the two countries, noting that the ammunition factory in Kuwait began operations at the start of this year. He also highlighted the ongoing exchange of visits and students between the two sides, affirming the desire to expand this cooperation in the coming phase.
China and the Gulf
Regarding China-Gulf relations, Yang Xin affirmed that Gulf states are "close friends of China," and that relations between the two sides go beyond energy cooperation to include political trust, economic development, and cultural exchange.
He added that China supports the countries of the region in playing a greater role in international and regional affairs, while adhering to international law, the United Nations Charter, and the basic norms of international relations.
On regional developments, he stated that China is working to promote a ceasefire and de-escalation, alongside the restoration of normal maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz. He emphasized that the strait is a vital international trade corridor for goods and energy, and that its security and freedom of navigation serve the shared interests of the international community.
China’s Economic Growth
In his remarks during the ceremony, the Ambassador noted that the Chinese economy has maintained steady and positive growth momentum. He explained that gross domestic product (GDP) grew by 4.7 percent year-on-year in the first half of the year, representing an increase of 3.6 trillion yuan—the largest growth for the same period in the past five years.
He added that advanced manufacturing, the smart digital economy, and modern services contributed more than 40 percent to this growth, noting that the current year marks the beginning of China’s 15th Five-Year Plan.
He affirmed that his country will continue to strengthen new drivers of development and open broader avenues for cooperation with countries around the world, with Kuwait at the forefront. He underscored that China-Kuwait relations are built on a solid foundation and offer wide prospects for growth, stressing Beijing’s commitment to expanding the partnership to enhance mutual interests and support sustainable development in both countries.
