Butler: Kuwait and the United States... side by side always

He affirmed that the two countries are bound by a steadfast partnership and friendship that has endured over decades of achievements.

The Chargé d’Affaires of the United States Embassy in the State of Kuwait, Stephen Butler, affirmed the depth and strength of Kuwaiti-American relations, noting that the two countries are celebrating the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between them, amidst a solid partnership and friendship that has spanned decades of shared achievements and common positions.

Butler stated that, on the occasion of the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, Kuwait, which had recently gained independence, began a new chapter in its history 65 years ago, with the United States present to offer congratulations and friendship.

He explained that official communication between the two countries began a decade earlier, when the United States opened its consulate in Kuwait in 1951, adding that the two countries formally established diplomatic relations on September 22, 1961, at which time the consulate was transformed into the United States Embassy, headed by Chargé d’Affaires Dayton S. Mack.

Butler added: “Today, after 65 years, I am honored to hold the same position and to contribute to writing the next chapter of our shared story.”

He noted that the story of relations between the two countries has been shaped by a friendship that was solidified amidst conflicts, shared achievements, and generations of Americans and Kuwaitis who built relationships that helped bring the two countries closer together.

He affirmed that Kuwait and the United States have stood together in their best and most difficult times, and will continue to stand side by side for many years to come, adding: “Today, we celebrate 65 years of friendship and partnership, and we look to the future as we always have, side by side.”
