Kuwait Renews Condemnation of Houthi Attacks on Saudi Arabia: A Flagrant Violation of Sovereignty and Breach of International Law

The Permanent Mission of Kuwait to the United Nations in Geneva renewed, on Tuesday, its strong condemnation and denunciation of the repeated attacks carried out by the Houthi militia against civilian facilities and civilians in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and the attempt to target the Holy City of Mecca with a drone.

This was stated in a speech delivered by Counselor Bashar Al-Muizari before the United Nations Human Rights Council, currently holding its 63rd session in Geneva, in which he emphasized that these attacks constitute a blatant violation of the Kingdom's sovereignty and a breach of international law and international humanitarian law.

Al-Muizari described this act, which he termed "cowardly and shameful," as a violation of the sanctity of the Muslims' Qibla, a disregard for its religious status, and an affront to the feelings of Muslims.

He warned that the region is witnessing a rapidly escalating political and military situation, as well as increasing tensions that directly affect regional security and the safety of navigation.

Al-Muizari reaffirmed the State of Kuwait's emphasis on the importance of political dialogue and diplomatic solutions as fundamental pillars for resolving international disputes and achieving sustainable stability among states, while stressing the necessity of respecting state sovereignty and territorial integrity, and adhering to the principles of international law and the United Nations Charter.

He called for avoiding any steps that could exacerbate tensions or expose regional security and stability to further risks.

In a related context, Al-Muizari also affirmed, within the framework of the Council's general debate, the importance of addressing human rights issues through constructive dialogue and cooperation, free from politicization and selectivity, in order to contribute to building trust and addressing challenges in a practical and effective manner.
