Public Works Minister Dr. Noura Al-Mutairi conducted a field visit to a labor city implemented by a Chinese state-owned company, on the sidelines of her trip to the People’s Republic of China to participate in the 2026 Global Forum on Sustainable Transport.

The Ministry of Public Works stated in a press release on Tuesday that Al-Mutairi reviewed the labor city’s facilities and its implementation model, as well as the Chinese government-nominated company responsible for constructing labor cities in Kuwait, in accordance with a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed between the two countries on the matter.

She added that the MoU is one of seven memoranda of understanding signed by His Highness the Amir, Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, with the Chinese government in 2023.

Earlier, during her speech at the Global Forum on Sustainable Transport in Beijing, Al-Mutairi emphasized the importance of developing modern and sustainable transport infrastructure as a cornerstone for achieving the goals of “Kuwait Vision 2035.” She noted that sustainable transport represents a balance between environmental responsibility, economic viability, accessibility, and operational efficiency.

The forum, organized by the Global Center for Innovation and Knowledge on Sustainable Transport under China’s Ministry of Transport, is part of efforts to support the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals and the UN Decade of Action for Road Safety 2021–2030, as well as the UN Decade of Sustainable Transport 2026–2035. It aims to build international consensus on a safe, efficient, green, inclusive, and resilient transport system.

The forum discusses five key themes: deepening global initiatives, enhancing connectivity, building an integrated transport system, prioritizing green transport, leveraging artificial intelligence for transport transformation, and ensuring universal access to sustainable transport services.
