Three US media organizations sue the Trump administration after barring their journalists from entering the White House

Three American media organizations announced on Monday that they have filed a lawsuit against the administration of President Donald Trump after being barred from entering the White House, demanding the restoration of their access rights based on the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.

CNN, MSNBC, and Politico stated in their legal filing that they are asking the court to take “immediate action” to reinstate access for their journalists to the White House.

The three organizations argued that the ban constitutes “a highly direct infringement on the First Amendment and a blatant violation of the most fundamental constitutional principles.”

In a joint statement, they said they had notified the government that morning of their intent to file the lawsuit “to protect our rights guaranteed under the First Amendment and to defend the principle that the government does not decide what the press reports or publishes.”

The statement added that the White House revoked the press credentials of journalists from the three organizations without prior notice or due process, citing objections to their news coverage, and warned that failing to challenge this move threatens press freedom and the public’s right to independent journalism free from government interference.

Trump announced the ban last Friday, accusing the three organizations of spreading “fictional stories or lies” about his administration, and hinted at similar actions against other media outlets.

For his part, Trump posted on his platform Truth Social following the announcement of the lawsuit, stating that the White House “is not attacking the free press, but rather fake news.”

He described this phenomenon as “corrupt, intentional, and having spread like cancer throughout the United States on a wide scale,” asserting that it has “completely gotten out of control” and poses a “threat” to U.S. national security.
