Minister of 'Affairs': Enhancing humanitarian and charitable cooperation with the UNHCR within legal frameworks

- Discussed with the UNHCR’s Gulf Regional Advisor the coordination of relief efforts and the consolidation of governance and transparency

Today, Monday, Minister of Social Affairs, Family, and Childhood Dr. Amthal Al-Huwaila held talks with Dr. Khaled Al-Khalifa, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Advisor to the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, on ways to enhance cooperation and partnership in humanitarian and relief fields.

In a press statement, the Ministry noted that the coordination meeting discussed the importance of the role played by UNHCR in managing relations and coordinating humanitarian and relief partnerships with governments, relevant authorities, and private sector entities in Gulf countries, thereby contributing to supporting refugees and affected populations worldwide.

According to the statement, Al-Huwaila emphasized the Ministry’s readiness to strengthen constructive cooperation with UNHCR in the fields of charity and humanitarian work, in accordance with legal frameworks and officially approved channels.

Both sides stressed the importance of the recently issued legislation regulating charitable and humanitarian work, and its role in reinforcing the principles of governance and transparency, establishing a clear institutional framework to regulate charitable activities, protecting donors’ funds, ensuring they are directed toward their intended purposes, and preventing the exploitation or misuse of charitable work.
