Deputy Minister of Islamic Affairs: Awareness and prevention are a shared responsibility to protect youth from the dangers of drugs
- Launches the "Be Aware" Awareness Campaign at Kuwait University
Dr. Engineer Sulaiman Al-Suwailem, Acting Undersecretary of the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, launched the national awareness campaign "Be Aware" on Monday. The campaign is organized by the Ministry, represented by the Department of Rehabilitation and Correction, at the College of Life Sciences in the Sabah Al-Salem University City at Kuwait University. The event was attended by Dr. Salem Matroud Al-Shamri, Acting Dean of Student Affairs, representing the University’s Rector, Professor Dr. Dina Mubarak Al-Milim.
Al-Suwailem emphasized that the launch of the campaign stems from the importance of enhancing awareness and preventing the dangers of drugs, and consolidating shared responsibility in protecting youth and society from this scourge. He noted that awareness is not limited to knowing the dangers of drugs, but extends to building the capacity to make sound decisions and reject behaviors that threaten the individual, the family, and society.

He clarified that combating drugs is a shared responsibility requiring the integration of efforts by families, educational, religious, health, and social institutions. He affirmed that the Ministry of Islamic Affairs fulfills its role in the fields of awareness, guidance, and reform through programs and initiatives aimed at strengthening values and community awareness.
He pointed to the role of the Department of Rehabilitation and Correction in implementing awareness and rehabilitation programs within correctional facilities and youth care centers.
He explained that the campaign is based on the pillars of awareness, prevention, and treatment, and aims to raise youth awareness of the dangers of drugs and enhance their ability to cope with pressures and risky behaviors, while emphasizing the importance of treatment and rehabilitation and supporting recovery efforts and reintegration into society.
The event is part of a series of discussion panels and awareness lectures held at several colleges of Kuwait University, contributing to reaching the largest possible number of students with the campaign’s messages.
The event featured a companion awareness exhibition with the participation of several supporting entities and institutions, led by the General Directorate for Combating Drugs and the Ghras Association, along with other participating entities and companies.
The program included an awareness session for students, featuring Dr. Hussein Al-Shatti, Director of the Addiction Treatment Center, and Professor Dr. Adel Al-Mutairat. The session addressed the dangers of addiction and ways to prevent it, as well as the religious and awareness-related aspects concerning the dangers of drugs.
At the end of the event, Al-Suwailem honored the representative of Kuwait University and a number of participating and supporting entities and personalities, including those who participated in the awareness session, in appreciation of their efforts and contributions to the success of the event.
Al-Suwailem expressed his appreciation to Kuwait University for hosting and supporting the campaign, and to all participating entities and institutions, affirming that the integration of national efforts in the fields of awareness and prevention is a fundamental pillar for protecting youth and enhancing the security and safety of society.
