The Court of Appeal Upholds Jasem Al-Jazaer's Acquittal for Insulting the Companions

The Court of Appeal upheld the Court of First Instance’s ruling acquitting Dr. Jasem Al-Jaza’ir of the charge of insulting the Noble Companions, following arguments and defense by lawyers Abdullah Al-Kandari and Mahmoud Al-Qattan.

The court emphasized in its ruling’s reasoning that freedom of thought and expression of opinion is a constitutional principle, noting that Articles 36 and 37 of the Constitution guarantee freedom of opinion, expression, and publication.

It clarified that the statements made by the accused fall within the scope of permissible publication protected by the constitutional guarantees of freedom of opinion and expression, thereby affirming the acquittal verdict issued in his favor.
