Damascus-Halep Road Cut Off and Warnings to Residents as Rescue Teams Unable to Reach the Site

A series of massive, consecutive explosions rocked an ammunition depot in the Al-Ais area of southern Aleppo countryside, located within a Syrian Army site, in the early hours of Monday. Official authorities warned residents to stay away from the explosion site.

Syrian authorities announced the closure of the Damascus-Halep highway and roads leading to the explosion site to ensure civilian safety, while relevant agencies mobilized their personnel to monitor the situation on the ground.

Aleppo Governor Azam Al-Gharib urged residents not to leave their homes or head toward the explosion site, emphasizing that hospitals, ambulance, and emergency teams are on standby to handle any emergency.

For his part, Faisal Muhammad Ali, Commander of Civil Defense Operations in Aleppo, stated that the ongoing explosions in the Al-Ais area are hindering the arrival of ambulance and rescue teams to the site, warning civilians to keep their distance.

Circulating video footage showed massive explosions and fires at the site, while authorities have not yet announced the cause of the explosion or the casualty toll.

The incident comes two days after an explosion at a military site in the Al-Ayash area, west of Deir ez-Zor, which killed 11 personnel from the Syrian Ministry of Defense, with the cause of that explosion still under investigation.
