Prince's Representative Meets Guterres in New York: Need to Activate UN Role to De-escalate Tensions

The representative of His Highness the Amir of the State of Kuwait, Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad, met today with His Highness the Crown Prince, Sheikh Sabah Al-Khalid, who held separate meetings with Alexander Van der Bellen, President of the Republic of Austria; Alar Karis, President of the Republic of Estonia; Dr. Khalil Al-Rahman, President of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly; and António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations. These meetings took place on the sidelines of the High-Level Week of the 81st Session of the UN General Assembly in New York.
His Highness the Crown Prince met with President Alexander Van der Bellen at his residence in New York. At the outset of the meeting, he conveyed the greetings of His Highness the Amir, Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad, along with best wishes for the President’s good health and well-being, and for the continued progress and prosperity of the Republic of Austria and its friendly people.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed bilateral relations between the State of Kuwait and the Republic of Austria and ways to develop them in a manner that serves the interests of both countries and their friendly peoples. They also discussed key developments on the regional and international scenes.
His Highness the Crown Prince also received President Alar Karis and his accompanying delegation at the Permanent Mission of the State of Kuwait to the United Nations in New York. He conveyed the greetings of His Highness the Amir, Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad, along with best wishes for the President’s good health, and for further development and growth for the Republic of Estonia and its friendly people.

His Highness the Crown Prince also met with Dr. Khalil Al-Rahman, President of the 81st Session of the UN General Assembly, at the United Nations headquarters in New York. At the beginning of the meeting, he conveyed the greetings of His Highness the Amir, Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad.
His Highness the Crown Prince congratulated Dr. Khalil Al-Rahman on assuming the presidency of the current session of the UN General Assembly, affirming the State of Kuwait’s full support for the presidency’s efforts to strengthen cooperation among member states and achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.
The meeting also included discussions on several items on the agenda of the 81st session, as well as key international issues.
In another meeting, His Highness the Crown Prince met with UN Secretary-General António Guterres at the headquarters of the international organization in New York. At the outset, he conveyed the greetings of His Highness the Amir, Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad.
His Highness the Crown Prince affirmed the State of Kuwait’s commitment to actively participating in the work of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly, noting the critical nature of the current phase and the need for concerted efforts by the international community to de-escalate tensions at all levels.
He stressed the importance of activating the role of the United Nations and enhancing its mechanisms to address successive crises, thereby contributing to establishing the foundations of regional and international security and stability and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
For his part, Guterres praised the historic and pioneering role of the State of Kuwait in supporting the international organization. He commended Kuwait’s intensive diplomatic efforts to promote dialogue and settle conflicts through peaceful means, its continuous support for humanitarian efforts aimed at alleviating the suffering of affected populations, and its backing of United Nations activities for the maintenance of international peace and security.
The meeting also reviewed the latest developments and the evolving situation on both the regional and international fronts, particularly the efforts underway to de-escalate tensions in the region, and exchanged views on ways to enhance joint cooperation in addressing the growing global challenges.
Attending the meetings were Sheikh Jraih Al-Jaber, Minister of Foreign Affairs; Sheikh Dr. Mishal Jaber Al-Ahmad, Director General of the Direct Investment Promotion Authority; Ambassador Mansour Al-Otaibi; and Ambassador Tariq Al-Bannai, the Permanent Representative of the State of Kuwait to the United Nations. Ambassador Sadiq Ma’arifi, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for International Organizations Affairs, also attended the meetings with the President of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly and the Secretary-General of the United Nations. Additionally, Minister Plenipotentiary Abdullah Nasser Al-Obaidi, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for the Minister’s Office Affairs, attended the meeting with Secretary-General Guterres.
