Yemen: Aden Police Foil Plot to Target Security and Military Leaders and Vital Facilities

Aden, Yemen’s interim capital, announced on Saturday evening that its police thwarted a plot to target security and military forces, as well as vital facilities and sites, using explosives. The operation followed a security raid that led to the arrest of a suspect and the discovery of an explosive device and materials linked to the plot in his possession.

Colonel Mousleh Al-Dhaharani, head of the Dar Saad Police Department in Aden, stated in a statement published by Aden Police that the operation was the result of surveillance, monitoring, and intelligence gathering, which ultimately led to identifying and arresting the suspect and recovering the explosive device and related materials.

He added that security agencies are continuing investigative and inquiry procedures to uncover the nature of the plot, as well as the individuals and entities involved, and are pursuing all leads that could lead to other perpetrators.

Aden Police clarified in its statement that the suspect confessed to receiving the explosive device with the intent of using it to target a military force on one of Aden’s main roads.

He further admitted that he was awaiting financial compensation and a vehicle after carrying out the operation, with the aim of creating chaos and undermining security and stability in Aden, with support and funding from leaders linked to the Houthi militia who are located in areas under their control.

The Aden Police confirmed that, through investigations, they obtained information about other explosive devices found at the suspect’s residence, which had been brought from a Houthi militia leader in Sana’a about a year ago. These devices were intended to target officers in the coalition supporting legitimacy in Yemen, as well as military leaders in the “Giants” brigades and the “Shield of the Nation” government forces.

He emphasized the continuation of surveillance, monitoring, and proactive security operations to foil sabotage plots and pursue anyone proven to be involved in acts that threaten security and stability.
