He made these remarks during a reception held by the Mexican Embassy in Kuwait last evening to mark the 216th anniversary of Mexican Independence. The event was attended by Nawaf Al-Ahmad, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Asian Affairs and Minister Plenipotentiary, along with members of the government, accredited diplomatic corps, and members of the Mexican community.

He noted that Mexico’s current population stands at 133 million. The country ranks 13th among the world’s largest economies, 10th globally in goods exports, and 5th in agricultural and food product exports. Additionally, according to the World Trade Organization, Mexico is the world’s leading exporter of fruits and vegetables.

He explained that the occasion provides an opportunity, alongside commemorating independence and highlighting Mexico’s history, heritage, culture, and traditions, to reflect on the trajectory of bilateral relations and envision their future prospects.

He pointed out that Mexico and Kuwait established diplomatic relations in 1975. Since then, relations have developed in areas of political dialogue and economic, trade, cultural, and educational cooperation, in addition to growing ties between the two peoples.

$51 million

The Ambassador emphasized the importance of continuing to develop the economic partnership, noting that Mexican exports to Kuwait reached approximately $51 million in 2026 so far, according to the latest available official Mexican trade data.

He added that these exports included freight vehicles, auto parts, air and vacuum pumps, iron and steel pipes, and various agricultural products, reflecting the capacity of Mexican companies to effectively participate in the Kuwaiti market.

Competitive industries

He affirmed that the figures are encouraging but also indicate that the economic and trade potential between the two countries is far greater. He noted that Mexico is one of the largest exporting countries in North America and possesses globally competitive industries in automobiles, auto parts, aviation and space, computers, data processing, beverages, medical devices, electronics, and food products.

He added that Kuwait offers important opportunities for Mexican companies and investors, especially as it advances its development and economic diversification plans. He called for increasing trade volumes, encouraging investment, and strengthening ties between the business communities of both countries.

25 agreements

Peña Hall noted that Mexico and Kuwait have signed more than 25 agreements. He stated that the embassy is working to enhance scientific, technical, and cultural cooperation, enabling universities and research centers to encourage Kuwaiti and Mexican youth to participate in joint collaborative projects.

He said these projects contribute to strengthening ties between the two societies, particularly in a phase where technological advancement serves as a pillar for enhancing competitiveness and achieving development. He expressed his pleasure at meeting young people from both countries and building friendships that will support relations for future generations.
