Friend... When Memories Return
Childhood friendship holds a special resonance in the heart. No matter how much people drift apart, memories remain the strong bond that connects them.
The occasion for this reflection is that I met a friend a few days ago. We were together in kindergarten, grew up together, and the years passed until we reached our sixties—more than 60 years since then. The meeting took place over lunch in the lush greenery of Salalah.
In those moments, we revisited our memories, but the recollection unfolded as a long stream of thoughts about what the passage of time leaves on a person. True, I am by nature sociable and maintain relationships with people, especially friends. However, the nature of life and its preoccupations sometimes compel people to drift apart. Each of us has many concerns and the burdens of daily life.
This does not mean cutting off contact with people. But as you, my dear friend, also have your own preoccupations and worries, meeting you feels like winning a major prize. Thus, the moments of our reunion left a profound impact on my heart.

I am convinced that everyone has their own life. I am one of those people, and I do not regret. Praise be to God, a believer who trusts in their Lord does not worry about when the appointed time will come, as it is written for all people, and there is no escape from God’s decree and destiny.
Having lunch with my friend brought back the passing days after several decades had elapsed. This meeting had a significant emotional impact on me. When I sent a photo of myself with my friend to some acquaintances, their reaction was very positive.
We have reached this age, and we reunited after all those years a few days ago. Perhaps the distance was my fault, or that of old acquaintances and friends, or perhaps there was no fault at all; rather, life’s preoccupations were the cause.
Yet, childhood memories and old friendships remain a source of tranquility and happiness, seeking nothing in return except to revive your memories. As I have always said, I try to maintain closeness with people and family, as this has a beautiful effect on the soul. The greatest joy is the happiness you feel. When you see old friends, you find positivity in them.
Yes, some of them may cause emotional friction, and this is natural, so you distance yourself from them. But the meeting with friends remains one of your most beautiful memories. Therefore, meeting an old friend in the mountains of Salalah was an experience that defied belief.
