Kuwaiti Farmers: Address Our Sector's Challenges and Expect Production That Supports Food Security
The Editor-in-Chief attended their expanded meeting at Muhammad Al-Mutairi’s farm in Al-Wafra.
Consensus reached on finding practical, sustainable solutions for the farms in Al-Abdali and Al-Wafra.
Kuwaiti farmers identified ten key demands to develop the agricultural sector and enhance plant wealth, foremost among them addressing the challenges facing farmers in Al-Wafra and Al-Abdali, supporting local production, and strengthening its role in food security. This was stated during an expanded meeting held at the farm of Muhammad Ali Al-Mutairi in Al-Wafra on Thursday evening, coinciding with the launch of the new 2026-2027 agricultural season.
Participants discussed the current state of the agricultural sector and the major challenges hindering its development, as well as farmers’ needs and the requirements for improving production efficiency and the working environment in agricultural areas.

They emphasized the importance of providing the prerequisites for stability in the agricultural sector, removing obstacles facing Kuwaiti farmers, and working to develop services and supporting infrastructure for production, thereby contributing to increased reliance on local products and enhancing their capacity to meet market demands.
Farmers stressed the necessity of continuing to support plant wealth and developing agricultural work mechanisms, and leveraging the available potential in the Al-Wafra and Al-Abdali areas to achieve greater returns for the sector and increase its contribution to the food security system. They also affirmed the importance of enhancing communication and coordination with entities concerned with agricultural affairs, and listening to the demands and needs of producers, in order to reach practical solutions that contribute to addressing existing challenges and developing the sector sustainably.
Attendees included Fahad Falah Bin Jamil, Editor-in-Chief of the newspapers “Al-Siyasa” and “Arab Times,” Brigadier General Ahmad Al-Jarallah, Deputy Chairman of the Kuwaiti Farmers’ Union Fahad Jaber Al-Hayan, and the Union’s Treasurer Ubaid Al-Nafishan. Also present were Naif Al-Mutairat, Rashid Saud, Salem Shabib Al-Ajmi, Sanitan Al-Zaabi, and Abdullah Fahad Aaid, along with media figures Saud Al-Farhan and Ahmad Al-Aswad, Muhammad Al-Farhan, Dr. Ahmad Zaid Al-Azmi, Dr. Malqi Muhammad Al-Azmi, and Abdullah Muhammad Al-Mutairi, as well as a number of agricultural researchers and workers in farms and companies in the Al-Wafra area.
