Dubai's tourism sector continues to grow, strengthening its contribution to the local economy

Supported by the continuous improvement in hotel sector performance indicators, Dubai’s tourism sector continues to strengthen its contribution to supporting the local economy. According to the latest data from the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism, the performance recorded from the beginning of the year through August last month reflects the efficiency of Dubai’s tourism ecosystem, the effectiveness of local and international partnerships, and the diversity of markets in which the emirate has solidified its presence in collaboration with partners and relevant stakeholders over the past years. It also reflects growing confidence in Dubai as a preferred global tourism destination and underscores the sector’s commitment to continuing investment, innovation, and the development of exceptional experiences that meet the aspirations of visitors. The remaining months of 2026 are rich with diverse events and experiences that enhance the emirate’s appeal and provide visitors with more opportunities to explore and enjoy.
Hotel occupancy in Dubai reached 66 percent in August, equivalent to 89 percent of the occupancy levels recorded in August 2025, continuing a notable rise from 36 percent in March 2026. This sustained upward trajectory is a clear indicator of ongoing demand and the strength of Dubai’s hospitality sector.

As a number of hotel properties began implementing large-scale renovation projects, as part of continued investment to elevate the guest experience and prepare for the future, the emirate’s hotel capacity reached approximately 149,000 rooms by the end of August. During the first eight months of the year, the emirate’s hotels recorded 21.61 million room nights booked, confirming the scale of activity the hospitality sector continues to achieve. The strong performance of the hotel sector was reflected in visitor numbers, with Dubai welcoming approximately 869,000 international visitors in August 2026, marking double-digit growth since March last month. This represents the highest monthly rate since February 2026, bringing the total number of international visitors to 6.97 million during the first eight months of the current year.
Dubai continued to attract visitors from diverse major international markets, with Western Europe leading the list of source markets from January to August, accounting for 20 percent of total visitors. This was followed by South Asia at 17 percent, the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries at 16 percent, the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) and Eastern Europe at 14 percent, the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region at 10 percent, Northeast and Southeast Asia at 9 percent, the Americas at 7 percent, and Australasia (Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, and neighboring islands) at 2 percent.
This geographic distribution reflects the diversity of visitor source markets and supports the efforts of the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism and its partners to attract more visitors from both traditional and promising key markets. This aligns with the objectives of the Dubai Economic Agenda D33, which aims to enhance the emirate’s position as a leading global destination for business and leisure, support the economy, and keep pace with the requirements of the future.
Isam Kazim, Executive Director of the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism’s Dubai Tourism and Commerce Marketing Authority, affirmed that Dubai continues to consolidate the position of its economy and the competitiveness of its development model. He noted that the tourism performance embodies the directives of our wise leadership to continue the journey of achievement and enhance the emirate’s standing as a leading global destination. The results achieved by the sector reflect the synergy of efforts among our local and global partners in the tourism and hospitality sectors, as well as community members who contribute to enriching the visitor experience and highlighting Dubai’s distinctive hospitality, cultural diversity, and renewed vitality. We take pride in the sector’s performance over the past months, as Dubai continues to welcome a growing number of international visitors, underpinned by a diversified source market base, advanced infrastructure, a world-class hospitality ecosystem, and innovative tourism experiences that enhance its appeal and support the sustainable growth of the sector and its contribution to the emirate’s economy.
He added that the Arabian Travel Market represents a vital platform for building on this progress and continuing to support the growth of the tourism sector. It also provides us with the opportunity to meet our partners from around the world, understand the trends in the markets they operate in, and collaborate with them to capitalize on available opportunities. At this stage, we are focused on continuing to strengthen close cooperation with our partners, increasing demand in both traditional and emerging key markets, and developing distinctive offers and experiences that encourage more visitors to choose Dubai as their destination. The strength of the fundamentals underpinning the tourism sector, coupled with genuine partnerships, enhances our confidence in the sector’s outlook as we look ahead to the remainder of 2026 and beyond to achieve further accomplishments.
