Health Ministry: Five Pillars for 'Safe Care for Life'

Al-Bahou: Prevention, early detection, safe treatment, self-care, and service coordination are fundamental pillars

The Ministry of Health celebrated World Patient Safety Day today, which falls on September 17 each year, under the theme “Safe Care for Life: Safe Care for Non-Communicable Diseases.”

Dr. Abeer Al-Bahou, Director of the Health Promotion Department, stated that the theme is built on five main pillars. The first is prevention and risk reduction, achieved by enhancing knowledge and awareness, taking preventive measures early, and ensuring that health information is sourced from reliable channels.

She explained that the second pillar focuses on early detection and conducting screenings that help identify diseases before symptoms appear, while the third emphasizes receiving treatment in healthcare facilities.

Al-Bahou added that the fourth pillar centers on self-care and long-term disease management, while the fifth addresses care coordination and transitions across stages of care, aiming to reduce communication gaps, information deficits, and poor coordination among healthcare workers.

Al-Bahou affirmed the Health Promotion Department’s commitment to embedding the principle that “prevention is better than cure,” and to disseminating evidence-based health awareness, steering clear of random and unreliable information.
