Qatar: Targeting the Holy Makkah with a drone is a "shameful act of aggression"

- It affirmed its solidarity with Saudi Arabia and its support for the measures taken to protect its security, holy sites, and the guests of the House of God.

The State of Qatar condemned and strongly denounced the targeting of the Holy City of Makkah by the Houthi group with a drone, affirming that any attempt to violate the sanctity of Makkah and the Sacred House of God, the qibla of Muslims and the purest place on earth, constitutes a shameful act of aggression and a grave transgression of all religious, moral, and humanitarian red lines, as well as a blatant provocation of the sentiments of more than a billion Muslims worldwide.

The Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized in a statement today, Wednesday, that the sanctity, security, and safety of the holy sites and their visitors cannot, under any circumstances, be targeted, threatened, or exploited in conflicts. It warned that engaging in actions that endanger Makkah and the holy sites represents a highly dangerous escalation and a reckless disregard for their great religious and spiritual status in the hearts of all Muslims.

The Ministry expressed Qatar’s full solidarity with the sister Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and its support for all necessary measures and precautions to protect its security, territorial integrity, Islamic holy sites, and the guests of the House of God.

It also expressed its full confidence in the Kingdom’s ability to safeguard the security of the Two Holy Mosques and to counter any threat to their safety.

The Ministry reaffirmed Qatar’s steadfast position of unequivocal rejection of targeting civilians and holy sites, calling for respect for the sanctity of these sites and for keeping them out of the repercussions of conflicts and regional escalation.

The Joint Command of the Coalition Forces had announced yesterday that the Royal Saudi Air Defense Forces intercepted and destroyed an enemy drone launched by the Houthi militia, which had attempted to enter the airspace of the Holy Capital (Makkah).
