Egypt reaffirms its support for Lebanon's sovereignty and rejects Israeli attacks on its territory

Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Dr. Badr Abdel Ati and Lebanese Prime Minister Dr. Nawaf Salam held talks today, Wednesday, on ways to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries and on developments in the regional situation.

The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a press release that the discussion took place during a phone call between the two sides, which covered recent developments in Lebanon and exchanged views on regional developments. It noted that Abdel Ati reiterated Egypt’s firm support for Lebanon’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity.

According to the statement, Abdel Ati emphasized Egypt’s complete rejection of violations and attacks by the Israeli occupation on Lebanese sovereignty, stressing the importance of the full withdrawal of the Israeli occupation from occupied Lebanese territories and the full and non-selective implementation of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701.

He also affirmed Egypt’s support for Lebanese state institutions, foremost among them the Lebanese Armed Forces, enabling them to fulfill their responsibilities and extend state authority over all Lebanese territories.

The statement added that the call addressed the broader spectrum of rapid regional developments and efforts to de-escalate tensions, as well as the implications of developments in the Red Sea on the security and safety of maritime navigation, freedom of international trade, and energy supplies.

In this context, Abdel Ati outlined the diplomatic efforts undertaken by Egypt to prevent the escalation from widening and to spare the region further tension and instability.
