Nazari: Kuwait holds a special place in Tajikistan's foreign policy
He affirmed that his country looks forward to translating the political understanding between the two nations into practical and economic cooperation.
Khosrow Nazari, the Ambassador of the Republic of Tajikistan to Kuwait, stated that relations between the two countries are witnessing steady progress, grounded in mutual respect, political dialogue, trust, and a partnership of mutual benefit. He highlighted his country’s aspiration to transform strong political understanding into broader practical and economic cooperation.
This statement came during the Tajik Embassy’s celebration of the 35th anniversary of Independence, attended by Minister of Public Works Dr. Noura Al-Mashaan, Assistant Foreign Minister for Asian Affairs Nawaf Al-Ahmad, a number of ambassadors, heads of diplomatic missions, diplomats, and members of the Tajik community.
Nazari said that Independence Day serves as a reflection on a national journey spanning 35 years and a look toward a future that Tajikistan views with confidence, determination, and hope. He expressed his appreciation for Dr. Al-Mashaan’s participation in the celebration, noting that it reflects the depth of friendship between the two countries. He emphasized that Kuwait holds a special place in Tajikistan’s foreign policy, pointing out that diplomatic relations were established on March 31, 1995, followed two weeks later by President Emomali Rahmon’s visit to Kuwait, which was the first visit by a Tajik president to an Arab state.
He noted that President Rahmon’s visit to Kuwait in November 2024 and his meetings with His Highness the Amir, Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad, marked a prominent milestone that gave momentum to bilateral relations and opened new horizons for cooperation. He also regarded the opening of the Kuwaiti Embassy in Dushanbe and the commencement of duties by the first Kuwaiti ambassador resident as an important step reflecting deep trust and a shared will to enhance convergence between the two countries.
Nazari stated that the coming phase requires translating political understanding into practical cooperation, clarifying that there are promising opportunities in trade, investment, infrastructure, agriculture, energy, tourism, and other priority sectors.
He added that Tajikistan looks forward to hosting the fifth meeting of the Joint Governmental Commission for Economic, Trade, Scientific, and Technical Cooperation in Dushanbe, which would support communication between business circles and contribute to turning available opportunities into tangible projects and results. He concluded his speech by affirming that his country will continue to work with Kuwait and friendly nations and international partners for peace, stability, sustainable development, and shared prosperity.
Kuwait: An Early Station in Tajik Diplomacy
Diplomatic relations between Tajikistan and Kuwait began on March 31, 1995. A few weeks later, President Emomali Rahmon visited Kuwait in the first visit by a Tajik president to an Arab state. His most recent visit in November 2024 marked a new station for enhancing cooperation, followed by the opening of the Kuwaiti Embassy in Dushanbe and the start of duties by the first Kuwaiti ambassador resident there.
Kuwait Fund Support: A Model of Development Solidarity
Nazari praised the contributions of the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development in supporting development projects in Tajikistan, considering cooperation with the Fund a model of development solidarity and an embodiment of Kuwait’s approach in supporting friendly countries.
Deep Cultural Ties Between the Two Countries
Nazari affirmed that relations are not based solely on agreements and projects, but on human and cultural bonds. He pointed to deep cultural and spiritual ties uniting the two countries, as well as historical links between the Tajik people and the Arab world.
Direct Flights: An "Important Bridge"
Nazari described the direct flight route between Kuwait and Dushanbe, operated by Jazeera Airways, as an important bridge that has contributed to revitalizing tourism, business, investment, and cultural exchange. He expressed hope for the development of the route and enhanced air connectivity.
