Turkey: Four killed and injured in shooting in Istanbul... nine suspects arrested

Two people were killed and two others injured in a shooting that took place on Tuesday inside a currency exchange office in the Fatih district of Istanbul, with police arresting nine suspects in connection with the incident.

The Turkish Demirören Haber Ajansı (DHA) reported that the incident occurred inside a currency exchange in the Molla Fenari neighborhood, following a dispute related to a financial disagreement that escalated into gunfire.

The shooting resulted in the deaths of two men, aged 30 and 27, while two others, aged 19 and 33, were injured and transported to the hospital for treatment.

Information regarding the casualty toll varied in the hours following the incident. The Anadolu Agency initially reported three deaths and one injury in an update, after earlier reports indicated two deaths and two injuries.

Conversely, DHA later updated its report to confirm two deaths and two injuries, a figure also cited by the Turkish Ihlas News Agency.

In the latest developments of the investigation, DHA stated that police arrested nine individuals suspected of involvement in the incident, seizing an unlicensed pistol, four magazines, and counterfeit US dollars.

The shooting took place in the Fatih district on the European side of Istanbul, a prominent tourist area in the city that is home to the Grand Bazaar and a large number of shops and landmarks.
