Al-Hakim relies on his intellect
Dialogues
A person exercises their intellect when they direct their thinking according to the standards of logic (correct logical reasoning and consistency). The wise person is one who applies their mind in a balanced manner, adhering to logical principles. They possess insight and foresight, considering the outcomes and consequences of words and actions. They learn from experience, and their wisdom grows daily due to their mental flexibility and openness to learning from any source or from anyone they see, hear, or interact with.
Among the matters that the wise person carefully considers, measures, and thinks about seriously, we mention the following:
- The intellect regulates personal behavior: The wise person feels joy and sorrow, and is often inclined, like any normal human, toward what their psychological biases dictate. However, they set aside their emotions when making personal and life-altering decisions. They exercise self-control, regulating what they say and do according to logic and sound reasoning. They do not act impulsively in speech or behavior because they consciously refrain from quickly following temporary emotional impulses without carefully calculating their potential results and consequences.

- The wise person does not become arrogant: You will not find a wise person who admires themselves to the point of arrogance. This is because they realize that being deceived by one’s own abilities and personal potential clouds the mind and often leads to behavioral mistakes, especially causing individuals to fall into catastrophic personal and life errors that they would not have committed had they remained humble and continued to view themselves as learners of wisdom, rather than its complete owners.
- The wise person adapts to their surroundings: The wise person applies their intellect in any environment they find themselves in, interacting with people and adapting as much as possible to the norms, laws, customs, and traditions accepted by the majority of those around them. They are wise because they are intellectually flexible, not intellectually or behaviorally rigid, which would prevent them from living in harmony with others. Integration is a key concept for them.
- The wise person learns continuously: The seeker of wisdom realizes that it is a continuous pursuit of sound judgment. Each new behavioral insight either adds to or replaces previous knowledge based on its merits. May your hands be rewarded for striving after wisdom.
