Abdi stated via the “X” platform that preventing the recurrence of such incidents requires activating the role of judicial and security institutions and enhancing coordination among them, thereby ensuring the rule of law, safeguarding the rights of civilians and prisoners, and preserving the security and stability of Kobani.
Syrian authorities had previously announced the death of seven prisoners and the injury of dozens with burns and asphyxiation following a standoff and fire that broke out inside Ain al-Arab (Kobani) prison last Saturday. The Internal Security Directorate in Aleppo has opened an investigation to uncover the circumstances of the incident and determine responsibilities.
Authorities clarified that the prison administration had not officially transferred to government authorities at the time of the incident, as the handover procedures were still ongoing within the judicial and legal framework.
