Fawaz: Concerned about Houthi control of Perim Island, we are closely monitoring developments

US Vice President JD Vance expressed his country’s concern on Monday over the Houthi militia’s control of Perim Island in the Red Sea, affirming that the US administration is monitoring developments “very closely.”

Speaking to reporters at a Kansas airport, Vance said, “We are in constant contact with the Emiratis, Saudis, and other affected parties in the region,” emphasizing that the issue is receiving careful attention and follow-up from the US administration.

He added that the United States had held direct talks with the Houthis, stating, “We feel that we are managing the situation and are well-informed about its details,” while noting that the situation is characterized by considerable volatility and constant change.
