Libya: Flights suspended at Misrata Airport after a private plane veers off runway and catches fire

The Libyan Ministry of Transport announced on Monday the suspension of flights at Mitiga International Airport in western Libya, following a fire that broke out in a private aircraft during its landing, causing it to veer off the runway without any reported injuries.

In a statement, the ministry said the private aircraft veered off the runway while landing at Mitiga International Airport on Monday morning, with no human casualties among the flight crew. It added that relevant authorities had initiated procedures to manage the incident and bring the fire under control.

The ministry noted that necessary measures had been taken to ensure air navigation safety at the airport, paving the way for the resumption of flight operations.

The aircraft, a Cessna 650, was carrying only a three-person crew: the pilot, who is German, and a co-pilot and flight attendant, both of Turkish nationality.
