Steadfastness and Continuity on Priorities

Steadfastness and Continuity on Priorities

“Our Lord, let not our hearts deviate after You have guided us and grant us from Yourself mercy. Indeed, You are the Bestower.” (Quran 3:8)

The highest priority is the most important personal goal in a person’s life. It comes before anything else and is something one must never abandon for any reason. The key factors in achieving priorities are steadfastness in maintaining them and persistence in striving to realize them. Among the elements that contribute to steadfastness and continuity in achieving personal and life priorities—and thereby lead to the accomplishment of their ultimate goals—are the following:

- Knowing your core priorities: A person truly knows their fundamental personal and life priorities when they fully grasp their critical, destiny-shaping importance, especially when these priorities reflect what once stirred their heart and continues to occupy their thoughts, making it impossible not to think about them. A genuine priority is nothing less than an answer to a person’s hopes, aspirations, and life goals. Those who know their actual and true priorities will, in turn, know what to say and do at the right time to achieve their objectives.

- Committing to priority-driven behaviors: Each personal or life priority has a specific set of effective, voluntary behavioral patterns that will lead an individual to achieve their ultimate goals. Those who strive to define the nature, type, and conduct associated with these behaviors will be closer to others in realizing their objectives.

- Steadfastness and persistence in priorities: An individual remains steadfast on their true priorities and persists in them when they begin to devote most of their intellectual and physical energy to realizing them in practice. Success in this endeavor comes if one makes a daily commitment to remain firm on these priorities and not deviate from them for any reason.

- Associating with successful people and avoiding idle, lethargic individuals: A wise person, who fully understands their personal and life priorities and goals, does not waste time associating with, sitting with, or even conversing with those who are idle and lethargic in recognizing their own priorities and goals. Instead, they associate with individuals who have succeeded in life, as these individuals serve as role models for anyone seeking success. A sign of successful people is that they do not associate with idle, lethargic individuals who spend most of their time in trivial and futile pursuits.
