'Ministry of Interior': 870 security and traffic patrols to secure the start of the new academic year

The Ministry of Interior announced on Saturday the raising of its security and operational readiness levels, and the allocation of 870 security and traffic patrols to secure the launch of the new academic year (2026–2027), regulate traffic flow, and ensure the safety of students and road users.
In a press statement, the Ministry said the security plan includes deploying 520 patrols under the Directorate of Security Affairs sector, 200 patrols under the General Directorate of Traffic, and 150 patrols under the General Directorate of Emergency Police, around schools, the roads leading to them, and various vital locations, to reduce traffic congestion and enhance the smoothness of movement.
It noted that the directorates of security are responsible for securing the perimeters of schools and vital locations and enhancing security presence, while the General Directorate of Traffic is regulating traffic flow and signals and monitoring roads from the control room via 338 traffic surveillance cameras, in addition to activating the flashing mode in traffic lights.
It added that the General Directorate of Emergency Police is responsible for immediate intervention and rapid response to reports received on the emergency hotline (112), affirming its readiness to receive reports and handle emergencies around the clock.
The Ministry explained that these preparations coincide with the launch by the General Directorate of Public Relations and Security Awareness of the “Prevention … and Safety” awareness campaign, which will run throughout the academic year through programs and activities targeting students, parents, educational staff, and the public, with the aim of instilling safe practices and responsible behavior.
It clarified that the campaign is based on six main pillars: traffic safety, protection of minors, drug prevention, cyber security, prevention of intellectual extremism, and environmental awareness.
The Ministry called on everyone to comply with traffic rules and pedestrian crossing lines, and not to share banking data or verification codes with any entity, as well as to monitor their children and strengthen dialogue within the family, emphasizing that prevention and safety begin with community awareness.
