Arab League Secretary-General condemns targeting of oil pipeline in Saudi Arabia: a direct threat to energy security

The Secretary-General of the Arab League, Nabil Fahmy, condemned on Saturday the targeting of an oil pipeline in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia by several drones launched from Iraqi territory, which resulted in human casualties and material damage.

Fahmy stressed in a statement that the targeting of the pipeline constitutes a blatant violation of the Kingdom’s sovereignty, a serious threat to its security and stability, and a clear breach of the rules of international law and the UN Charter.

He emphasized that attacks on infrastructure and oil facilities, as well as energy transmission lines, pose a direct threat to energy security and the stability of both the regional and international economies. He reaffirmed the Arab League’s rejection of the use of any Arab country’s territory as a launching point for attacks on another Arab state or for undermining its security and stability.

Fahmy expressed the Arab League’s full solidarity with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and its support for the Kingdom in all lawful and necessary measures it takes to safeguard its sovereignty, protect its security and national assets, and ensure the safety of its citizens and residents on its territory.

He expressed appreciation for Saudi Arabia’s decision not to respond at this time, allowing the Iraqi government the opportunity to take necessary measures to prevent the recurrence of such attacks on Arab neighbors launched from Iraqi territory.
