Iraqi Prime Minister Dismisses Maysan Operations Commander After Proving Attack on Saudi Arabia Launched from the Province

- Establishment of an investigative committee against the operations command to uncover the circumstances of the attack

Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi has dismissed a senior security official from his post and ordered an investigation to be opened, following the attack on Saudi Arabia that originated from Iraqi territory.

The Iraqi News Agency (INA) quoted the spokesperson for the Prime Minister’s Council, Sabah al-Nu’man, as saying that al-Zaidi, in his capacity as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, ordered the dismissal of the commander of the Maysan operations command in the southern part of the country from his duties.

Al-Nu’man added that the Prime Minister also directed the formation of an investigative committee against the Maysan operations command, after “it was established that the attacks targeting the brothers in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia originated from a site within the province.”

Al-Zaidi had previously ordered an urgent investigation to uncover the circumstances of the attacks and identify the parties behind them, and to take legal action against anyone proven to be involved.

The Iraqi Prime Minister emphasized that the state would not tolerate any activity that endangers Iraq or its relations with sister and friendly countries, affirming that Iraqi land and airspace would not serve as a launching point for attacks on any state.
